Frequently Asked Questions

What is Support at Home?

Support at Home is the Australian Government’s aged care program designed to help older Australians live independently at home for longer. It provides access to approved care and support based on your individual needs.

How do I know if I’m eligible for Support at Home?

Eligibility is determined through an aged care assessment. Your assessment looks at your needs and circumstances and identifies the types of care and support you may be eligible to receive.

What areas does East Coast Care Connect service?

East Coast Care Connect provides services across a growing range of communities in NSW and Queensland, including Newcastle, the Coffs Harbour Region, Northern Rivers, Tweed Heads, Gold Coast and Brisbane.

If you’re unsure whether we provide support in your area, get in touch with our team and we’ll be happy to help.

Do I need to have funding before I contact East Coast Care Connect?

No. You’re welcome to contact us at any stage. If you’re new to aged care or unsure about your funding, we can help you understand where to start and what your next steps may be.

Can I choose my own care provider?

Yes. Once you have been approved for Support at Home services, you can research and choose a provider that suits your needs and preferences.

What services can East Coast Care Connect provide?

Depending on your assessed needs and available funding, we can provide a range of in-home and community-based support, including personal care, assistance with daily living, meals, transport, nursing, allied health, care management and home maintenance.

We’ll work with you to understand the support you need and create an approach that fits naturally into your everyday life.

Can I choose when and how I receive support?

We’ll work with you to arrange your services around your needs, preferences, approved supports and available funding. Our aim is to make your care feel flexible, personal and easy to manage.

Will I have the same support worker?

We aim to provide consistency wherever possible. We know that familiar faces and trusted relationships can make a real difference, so we take the time to understand who you feel comfortable with and what works best for you.

Can my family or carer be involved?

Absolutely. With your permission, we can involve family members, carers or other important people in conversations about your care. You have the right to include someone you trust when making decisions about your support.

Will I need to contribute towards the cost of my care?

This depends on the services you receive and your individual circumstances. Under Support at Home, some services are fully funded by the Australian Government while contributions may apply to others. Your contribution can depend on the type of service and your income and assets assessment. We’ll make sure applicable costs are explained before your services begin.

Can I change providers if I’m already receiving Support at Home?

Yes. You can change your Support at Home provider if you decide another provider is a better fit for you. If you’re considering moving to East Coast Care Connect, get in touch and we can talk you through what’s involved.

Can East Coast Care Connect support people with complex care needs?

Yes, depending on your individual needs and circumstances. Our experienced team can support a range of care needs, including more complex requirements. We’ll talk with you about the support you need and make sure we’re the right fit before services begin.
